Used Planet Fitness Equipment for Sale: Buying Ex-Gym Chain Machines

1. Why Gym Chain Equipment Reaches the Used Market

Large gym chains such as Planet Fitness operate thousands of clubs, many of them franchise-owned, and clubs refresh their equipment over time to keep their floors looking new. Each refresh sends commercial treadmills, ellipticals, bikes and strength machines onto the used market, which is why searches for used Planet Fitness equipment are so common.

Note: we're an independent marketplace and aren't affiliated with Planet Fitness. Equipment described as "ex-Planet Fitness" or "old Planet Fitness equipment" is simply commercial equipment that came from one of its clubs.

2. What Brands Is Planet Fitness Equipment?

Gym chains don't make their own machines — they buy from commercial manufacturers. The brands on a given Planet Fitness floor vary by club, region and era, and major commercial lines such as Matrix and Life Fitness have both been associated with the chain. The chain's purple and yellow color scheme often appears on frames or upholstery, but underneath it is standard commercial equipment.

Always check the manufacturer's badge and serial label on the machine itself. That tells you the real brand and model, which is what determines parts availability and value.

3. What Equipment You'll Typically Find

High-volume chains tend to focus on cardio and easy-to-use selectorized strength machines rather than large free-weight areas, and that shapes what turns up for sale.

• Commercial treadmills, ellipticals and upright and recumbent bikes
• Stair climbers and steppers
• Selectorized strength machines, often from circuit-style training areas
• Smith machines and cable stations
• Dumbbells and benches

4. Is Used Chain Gym Equipment a Good Buy?

It can be. Chain clubs usually keep equipment on a regular maintenance schedule, and the machines are designed for heavy commercial use. On the other hand, a busy club can put a lot of hours on a machine, so condition varies. Treat ex-chain equipment like any other used commercial equipment: identify the model, inspect the wear parts and test it before you buy.

Branded upholstery is cosmetic. If the purple and yellow colors don't suit your space, pads can usually be re-covered.

5. Where to Find Used Planet Fitness Equipment

Equipment from chain refreshes usually flows through used equipment dealers, liquidation sales and used marketplaces rather than directly from the clubs. Search by the real brand and model as well as by the chain name — the same machines are often listed under their manufacturer's name.
